After receiving pocket cards, you are immediately faced with a choice: play your cards and either raise or call the blinds, or fold.

I called out, “Time,” to think things over.
I called out, “Time,” to think things over. I knew my opponent. He trained and owned horses, which ran at the local racetrack. He was a very nice guy and a solid poker player. However, he usually played Seven-Card stud at the casino. When he plays Texas Hold’em he plays strong cards. He must’ve had reasonably strong cards to call my raise of his Blind hand. He had previously always folded his Blind when there was a raise. I decided my opponent didn’t have a Five. He definitely would have bet holding a Five on earlier rounds. I put him on Jack-Ten, Ace-Ten, or Ace- Seven. I didn’t believe he’d call a raise in the Blind with a Five- Seven, or even a Ten-Seven, or a Seven-Two. I decided that he must have Ace-Seven or Ace-Ten. So, I go all in. I put every single chip I have into the pot. I held my breath.

Guess what cards he turned over? King-King to my Queen-Queen. I lost.I was out of the tournament. I wished the winner good luck. I got up from the table and walked out to the parking lot. I drove home a defeated humbled tournament player. Even though I lost, and it’s never fun to lose, I enjoyed being in the tournament. The playing
