When playing this game, play for either a high or a low hand, not for both, because both hardly ever develop. When going for high, play more or less as in Five Card Stud (High) making due allowance for active opponents who appear to be going for low. These are not always easy to spot. Several low upcards may be accompanied by an ace in the hole or the upcard may pair the hole card. And keep in mind that a perfect three-card low can be turned into a strong high hand by the fourth and fifth drawn cards.
When going for low, play more freely than in Five Card Stud (Low), since there is always the chance that an opponent, although holding a strong-looking low hand, may in fact be going for high.
