The playing of Seven Card Stud is completely different from Five Card Stud. There is considerably less information to be analyzed from the four upcards of opponents, who may at the showdown hold four of a kind without even a pair showing among their face-up cards.
In this game the average winning hands have more in common with those in Draw Poker for the values of the hands are about the same. A fairly high three of a kind is an average winning hand with four or more active players at showdown. Two pairs wins the average pot when two or three active players remain at the showdown. However, when five or more players remain to the end, straights, flushes and full houses are so common that a player can't bet on anything less, provided that the face-up cards of the opponents (plus their previous betting) would justify any possibility that opponents hold higher hands.
