Practice Matters

After the draw an eight high

After the draw an eight high in the early and middle positions and a seven high are worth a raise in any position. Any six high is normally worth a third raise. A seven high should not be rated higher than, say, a full house or a low four of a kind in standard Draw Poker. If your seven high is beaten, you can be disappointed, but you shouldn't be amazed, since there are 4,080 hands that will beat the best seven high. And don't be shocked if an opponent beats your seven high with a cinch 6-4-3-2-A hand, because cinches are by no means unknown in Lowball Ace to Six.

Generally there is considerable more bluffing

Generally there is considerable more bluffing after the draw in this game than in standard Draw Poker. Example: An active player who has made a disastrous straight or flush will often try a bluff by making a maximum-limit bet. At any rate, with two or three active players remaining, since he knows that if he cheeks he cannot possibly win, he will bluff and bet. It is difficult to call such a limit bet when each of the remaining players has paired his hand. However, it's worth noting that against an opponent who has bet the limit and drawn either one or two cards, a small pair of aces or deuces will win nearly as often as a ten high.
