"But," you say, "should I make the flush, it may not win; therefore, shouldn't the pot make me better odds?" The answer is no, for as a rule there isn't too much money in the pot before the draw; and, second, a flush will win many more times for a player than it will lose.

A player who has a fair idea of the chances of improving his hand in Draw will have a great advantage over the player who does not have the vaguest idea. It is suggested that a player try especially to memorize the exact chances of bettering certain hands, such as a pair, a four-card straight and a four-card flush.
