During my World War II gambling investigations for the War Department I spotted hundreds of signal cheats who hailed from various sections of the country, all employing the international signs. A brief description of this signal code follows. One finger extended from a closed fist on the table means one pair; two fingers extended, two pairs; three fingers extended, three of a kind; hand flat on table, fingers touching, full house; hand flat on table with fingers spread out, four of a kind, etc. The signal to a partner to raise is given by putting the clenched fist down on the table and raising the thumb up and down. These signals are given for a split second only.

When the upcard covers one or both of the hole cards completely, it usually indicates the upcard is paired with the hole card. If in Seven Card Stud or Hold Em the first two dealt hole cards are squared perfectly on the table, it indicates they are paired, and so on.
