SCARNE AND THE LAS VEGAS WORLD SERIES OF POKER Today's most celebrated and biggest money Poker tournament is the annual Las Vegas World Series of Poker. The top winner of this Poker extravaganza takes home a few hundred thousand dollars in prize money plus achieving the glory of being hailed everywhere as the World's Poker Champion for the year. The publicity given this tournament by the national and international press and television has not only made an obscure Texas Poker game named "Hold Em" (see pages 212-16) popular throughout the globe, but it has stimulated Poker playing the world over by making millions of new players.

In late December 1975, I appeared as a guest star on the Merv Griffin national television show, which devoted its entire ninety minutes to big-time Poker games and the annual Las Vegas World Series of Poker. Other guests on the show included Benny Binion, Johnny Moss, Jack Strauss, and Poker player and television star Jack Klugman.
