Raises There are a couple of reasons for raising. One is to increase the size of the pot. The other is to drive other players out. It may appear wrong to want to drive other players out of the pot when you have the best hand before the draw, since, as I have mentioned, the best hand going in usually wins the pot. However, chance and probabilities don't always act as expected, so at times it's best to try and drive other players out, and at times to let them stay.
The following table shows the percentage win after the draw for a hundred pots comprising two to seven players, each of whom puts one chip into the pot.
